Jason + Megan’s Rooftop Anniversary Session | Des Moines, IA

Telling your story, authentically &  why just ‘being in the moment’ makes the best photos

Everyone's story deserves to be told and captured on camera. Life moves too quickly to miss these important milestones.

We grow up so fast, get married and start families and at the end of it all, you end up with hundreds of photos that tell those stories. These memories pass by so quickly and you want to ensure that you capture them all. Most of the time, your photos include everyone that is at your event and in your life.

I will attempt to get the most natural and candid photos to capture the most authentic moments. During our consultation call, I will ask you to try and forget that I am there. Do what feels natural and be in the moment – real expressions and reactions evoke strong emotion through the photos.

In a world of staged and filtered photography, it is crucial to remind ourselves of the extraordinary power of authentic storytelling. Telling your story genuinely, embracing imperfections, and being present in the moment allows photographs to transcend beyond mere images. It enables those who get the privilege to look at them, experience the emotions, immerse themselves in the surroundings, and be a part of your story.

During Megan and Jason’s Downtown rooftop anniversary session we did just that. It was a perfect summer night, a little windy but we managed! We were the only ones there, and I allowed them to lead the session with their body language and we saw how comfortable they were in each other’s arms. I didn’t have to do much posing. You could just feel their love through the photos.

Megan mentioned how every year she wanted to capture their love with photos and I am so here for it! I think that every milestone, big or small, should be celebrated including anniversaries.

To split up their session we incorporated something that they both love & that is pizza! I mean who doesn't love a good pizza?! Including something unique to you can add a personal touch to your session. It can help create a more personalized and memorable experience, as well as produce fun and creative photos.
